Returning after a two-year recording hiatus (during which bandleader Danny Elfman recorded a solo album), Oingo Boingo forsook the excesses of smart-aleck humor and quirky production that had led critics almost universally to dismiss the band's first four albums. The sound is still maybe just a bit too uptight and over-determined, but the horn charts are more focused and sophisticated, and Elfman has matured considerably as a lyricist. • I guess in hindsight i can't see it as them selling out, because as far as i can tell their appeal didn't stretch all that wider than it had done previously. They might have aimed as a group to be more middle of the road but in my opinion it didn't happen. Dead Man's Party is still just as quirky as their previous work. I think Oingo Boingo are an acquired taste, but god knows why! I've never understood why they're so underrated and unknown.
  • Their previous albums were so much goofier. They've got a couple catchy tracks, but this is pretty much them selling out.
  • No, you really can't hate this album, can you? Not unless you've got some mad vendetta against the 80s.
  • It's illegal in some countries to dislike the song "No One Lives Forever".
  • Comic Book Guy would say "Best Album Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  • this was my introduction to Oingo Boingo and holds a special place in my heart. one of the few albums i can listen to without skipping.

  • Me likes.
  • No one can say anything bad about Oingo Boingo. Their eccentricity opened the doors for all of these off the wall bands. They also had some freakin awesome music that is still great to listen to today. Reminds me of my youth when life was much simpler and more mysterious.
  • This is awesome. All I had growing up was Skeletons in the Closet, Best O' Boingo, and Farewell album. Now I'm listening to "new" oingo boingo. Really like "Same Man I Was Before."
