S Baker was born and raised in a small town on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pa. He grew up around steel mills and smoke stacks in a town where everyone was a shift-worker. Hard work and strong family ties were a powerful part of his life in Western Pennsylvania. He worked in the mills, coal mines, and on the rivers, which are an integral part of life as a Pittsburgher, as a young man. Eventually, he served in the military, just like all of his family had done over the generations. It was at this point when he became aware of more things than just the everyday life in a steel town. The world became larger and he began to experience and question the values that were part of his upbringing. He finished college and went on to graduate school and has been “learning” ever since. He began playing music at the age of 12 and has never stopped. His influences as a guitarist have their roots in early classic rock and this has carried on through today. He tells everyone that he became “a musician” in New Orleans where, in his younger days, he would sit for hours watching the musicians on Bourbon Street and the French Quarter perform. These blues techniques are still obvious in his latest recordings. He became, eventually, totally interested in the guitar techniques of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd. There has been no music that has influenced his guitar style more than that of Pink Floyd. Additionally, the lyrics and arrangements of Roger Waters have had the most influence on his songwriting. He refers to Waters as “The British Bob Dylan!” Eventually, he formed the band Obscured By Pink and, to this day, can be found almost anywhere on any day playing “The Floyd.
