Om is the name of three separate projects:

1) A psychedelic rock/metal duo from San Francisco, CA formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the disbanded stoner-doom metal band Sleep. The band’s first three albums feature Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums.

Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan chanting and is rich in rhythm and melody. Their music and lyrics lift off at the beginning and slowly mutate giving a feeling of evolution inside each song. The vocals have a monotone quality, producing, on some tracks, a noticeable hypnotic effect of the sort that tends to be appealing to the devotees of the many various genres of druggishly-bent, “space” music—but which not all music calling itself “stoner rock” necessarily is able to cause.

On the 31st of January 2008, Hakius left the band. In March 2008 OM recorded a 7” for Sub Pop records. The song “Gebel Barkal” was the first release to feature new drummer Emil Amos.

2) OM was a jazz group signed on the German ECM label in the 1970s. They still occasionally play live.

God is Good is far more then just Thebes. Cremation Ghat is incredible. especially the first one with Al's sick fucking bass line, that stutter note gives me a boner everytime! Emil is an incredible addition to this band, his creativity and mellow sparing drum beats accent the bass perfectly. totally a top album for me this year!
