I have only listened to the new album a few times this year. Far less than I spun Garden Window. But today I was listening again and "Oblivion" just blew me away. I think it might be my favorite O'bro song now.
i'll admit that disillusion didn't initially grab me the way garden window did, but once i saw the new songs live, holy fuck did that change it for me. watch their audiotree sessions. the new material sounds heavier and better live, in my opinion.
Yeah, I'm airing on the side of it being pretty amazing. But not right out of the gate. It kind of opens up after a few listens. Lyrically it's more focused really pretty raw. It's a whole different animal and shouldn't really be compared to Garden Window.
Also, it plays like a concept album, which I think is awesome. I don't know if that was the intent, but that's how it's coming across to me. If anyone's read any of the Dark Tower series, the narrator of Disillusion bears some similarities to the main character. Anyway. Awesome, mean as hell album that will probably grow on the naysayers.
I have to disagree about the album being mediocre. The album quite the opposite. If bands put out the same album every time whats the point of music. Its like Brand New fans not like anything except Deja which in my opinion is their worst album. O'brother is growing as a band and most people are gonna be like but its not Garden Window. I love the new album already and I have only owned it for a week.
