Nuyorican Soul is a Masters At Work’s project that sees them working extensively with real (as opposed to sampled or synthesized) musicians, in a variety of styles including Latin, disco, jazz, etc. Musicians who took part in this project include Vincent Montana Jr., Roy Ayers, George Benson, Jocelyn Brown, Tito Puente, and members of the Salsoul Orchestra.

The self-titled album released by Nuyorican Soul in 1996 included original tracks as well as cover versions of songs by the performers they were working with, such as “Sweet Tears” (Roy Ayers), and “Runaway,” originally sung by Loleatta Holloway with the Salsoul Orchestra, here sung by India, featuring musicians from the original recording of 1977.

    My sister turned me on to this cd in 1996, and I fell in love with it! I actually kept it from her for a year! HA! The cut that got me was "I Am The Black Gold of the Sun".......it was WOW then and still is! The descant harmonies are majestic-they penetrate the soul and burst forth with rainbow colors and visions of African/Egyptian paradise with white beaches and cobalt blue water. I went to get my personal copy after giving it back to her and it was out of print. I've looked for this cd for 13 years and finally found it here on Last.fm through my dude mugshot_tim ! HooooRAH! Thank you Last.fm and thank you Tim!
