2011 was another great year for music, there was so much great shit released by hard working groups and labels that again it was a tough year to make a list. I always feel as though I should wait like a month or two after the new year to make a list like this since I do usually miss an amazing record and regret not putting it on the list. Going from #20 to #1 this time.
Enjoy and GFYS.
#20. SubRosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones
Label: Profound Lore Records
Beneath the Crown
I still can’t get over how those violins sound like trumpets, and its just so cool. What a great sludge/doom release that I was very surprised by. Majority females in this band with a semi-Neurosis/A Storm of Light aesthetic and sound floating about it, melancholic with a psychedelic flavor sprinkled throughout. …

Yeah it's something everyone on this site does I guess, so it's my turn. While I'm in Toronto I see as many bands/artists/shows as I possibly can without interfering with my studies.
Here's the list (which will be updated frequently I think) without any particular order:
Wolves in the Throne Room (x2)
A Storm of Light
Abigail Williams (x2)
High on Fire
Decrepit Birth (x2)
The Faceless (x2)

Absu - Absu (7/10)
A relatively decent comeback album. Drum prodigy Proscriptor has gathered some new musicians for Absu's fifth full length of thrashy black metal. Due to having a handful of different musicians involved in the songwriting process over the years, Absu's self titled has a variety of tones and moods to offer. This is good, but doesn't really cover any new ground that wasn't done in Tara. The drum sound is slightly annoying as well but such is life.
Altar of Oblivion - Sinews Of Anguish (5/10)
Am I missing something here? Some people really hyped up this band's debut, but after a few listens, nothing is really sticking. There are far much more interesting doom releases this year. …
