Biography

Washington D.C., United States (1994 – 2004, 2005 – 2009)

Nothingface were a band which formed in 1994 in Washington D.C., United States. For most of the band’s career, the lineup consisted of Matt Holt (vocals), Tom Maxwell (guitar), Bill Gaal (bass) and Chris Houck (drums). The band released five albums - “Nothingface” (1995), “Pacifier” (1997), “An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity” (1998), “Violence” (2000) and “Skeletons” (2004) - before disbanding in 2004. The band reformed in 2005, but disbanded once more in 2009.

Other bandmembers included David Gabbard (vocals, 1994-1995), Jerry Montano (2001, 2005-2007) and Tommy Sickles (2000-2004, 2005-2007).

Formed in 1994, the band’s original line-up consisted of vocalist David Gabbard, guitarist Tom Maxwell, bassist Bill Gaal and drummer Chris Houck. They released three tapes with this lineup, until Gabbard left the band. At this point Matt Holt took over singing duties. The band then recorded a self-titled album featuring ten songs. DCide then discovered Nothingface, and they re-recorded the album, with six of the songs featuring on their debut album Pacifier, released February 6, 1997.

The band were often mislabeled as nu metal, however many music critics denied them as nu metal. They also are known for their extremely aggressive and heavy style.

The band’s second album An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity was released on September 22, 1998 via DCide/Mayhem Records. The band toured in support of the album throughout the United States with Stuck Mojo,[2] Sam Black Church and Ministry.[2]

Can't believe a 5th album with the true Nothingface lineup was never completed, Tom calls out Matt for his lack of ambition, drive and passion and Matt... never even responded so bigger picture I hope Matt is happy and living well, wherever he is. It always sucks knowing someone THAT TALENTED has done basically nothing for over 5 years...

Well you should be fairly good at death growls then (saying that sounds ridiculous) but SINGING is what draws people in and takes more talent (requires so much from your diaphragm) ... it's more natural and had there been a 5th Nothingface record Matt would've been singing a lot and screaming/growling far less. Finding a talented SINGER these days, well they're in high demand and just extremely hard to find. A true front man. Doing nothing but growling and screaming does nothing for me and isn't very original in my opinion. Gets old fast and it's like "OK, I get it."

Gotta take care of your voice if you sing. Doubly so for me since I mostly do death metal growls.

The more guttural stuff is challenging but if you know what you're doing its not a problem. This band toured a ton from like 95-2004. Matt smokes weed, cigarettes & I've heard due to other issues just completely has lost it.

As much as I like this guys style of shouts/growls, it sounds like it hurts a lot. I'll stick to my Swedish detah metal style.

Screaming ruins many voices, mine included.

No Nothingface is dead. Sadly... but Maxwell is in a happy place with Hellyeah (Band of Brothers kick ass in my opinion), Bill & Chris are doing In for the Kill... I miss Matt, I've heard rumors which one has to believe contain some truth because he's never responsive. Love the dude but heard he's completely ruined his voice. SMH

Ооочень понравилась группа, впервые её открыл для себя сегодня. Вокал похож немного на Слипкнот поздний. Но в целом качественно играют и поют. Спасибо.

Why are you talking Zach? I thought they were "dead" and there was nothing to talk about?

Patricide tears me apart, so relatable. Musically I think Skeletons is lacking on a few songs but Matt's performance and the depth and content of his lyrics definitely was not
