Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic compared it favorably to Stefani’s solo albums, stating, “That’s the interesting thing about Push and Shove, for as much as there are clever contemporary flourishes, this is a modest, mature comeback, highlighted by the band’s keen awareness of their strengths and subtle, unstated acknowledgment of encroaching middle age.
Entertainment Weekly’s Melissa Maerz commented that on Push and Shove, Stefani “pogos as hard as she did in her Anaheim-strip-mall ska days. But she’s also just as neurotic, which adds depth to her love songs.”

I agree they already done much better lyrically, but it's not as horrible musically as everybody is saying. It's probably due to the fact that people automatically connect pop music to crappy and disposable music. It's not their best, but it's still a masterpiece.

@thatboyrion I think the album is perfect what's wrong with this album? It sounds like classic No Doubt and I would think that's a good thing compare to what's on the radio today. Maybe you should just go back and re listen to the album. JMO

the problem is that didn't do nothing last 11 years and just wanted come back... that is the reason why album is, in my opinion, disbalance. A lots of good ideas, but creative mess as result.

But the thing about P&S is that THEY DIDN'T GROW UP, they didn't matured, like marcoant_w said, it's a regress, such bad lyrics as Looking Hot, One More Summer etc. they could have prepared something REALLY better, in these 11 years of hiatus.

Push and Shove is their worst era so far. Great album, but it isn't one of their best, I'm still waiting for the anthems they have promised - I can't take "One More Summer". And the lyrics on this album doesn't feel like "growing up", Return Of Saturn sounds so much more mature than Push and Shove and this was released 12 years ago... I don't think that's a bad thing change the sound, but for me "Push and Shove" is a regress... Wake up guys, how many years they had to prepare a masterpiece?

Turning shitty for you, for me they're great, not like they used to be, but they are. It's just like avril with her Goodbye Lullaby, that was not as great as UMS or LG, but showed avril as a more mature person, as this album did. I don't think it sucked. And as I said, if you want to listen something like thy used to do, just go and listen.

I don't feel like this album is awfull, It is just not like the others. But, if you guys want to hear something like the others, well, go and LISTEN to them. Nobody's makeing you listen to this. I don't want they to come back, they need to grow up, not stop in the time.

they are very doubtful these days [4] this album represents their worst era so far. everything is a mess. [4] now the album is under $6 after less than 2 months of the official release, they're clearly desperate - GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS more track like push and shove would have save the day.
