Sounds exactly to me like the musical equivalent of rotting away in the woods in the middle of nowhere, in the dead of winter...frost closing in to conceal the decay...

Throbbing gristle memories, it reminds me weeping, it's different of course, but the sensation is the same

in all seriousness, one of the most amazing pieces of music ever. Garson's piano kills me every time.

@pinkfloid: Doing it right now. Waiting for Ripe (With Decay) to break down into Somewhat Damaged. Man, I love that guitar riff from The Big Come Down in the second part of this instrumental. It simply HAS to work well. Great! Feels a bit like listening to the Fragile on repeat. It just was weird to start off with The Way Out is through. And it's weird to break the storyline of the record ... or at least what I've interpreted as its story. :D

there has been a theory posited that the Fragile may have been intended for listening not Left to Right but Right to Left. It has been noted that in certain world cultures right comes first and left follows. If one opens with the Right disc of the Fragile, Ripe (with Decay) is a nice instrumental composition bridging the story arcs of discs Right and Left. (I personally feel that beginning the album with The Way Out Is Through and beginning part 2 with Somewhat Damaged makes a lot of sense thematically and sonically). Take the sad, brutal trip from TDS and begin a new one afresh going Right to Left...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

This is one of the best (if not the best) instrumental song i've heard.

This track is quite ambiguous, I think. It stands for the end as well as a new beginning... like a phoenix of sorts....

This is truly what music is all about. Raw emotion.
