26 Aug 2010, 17:41 by CvaldaVessalisHello everyone! Hope you all had a great summer... Mine was actually pretty hectic to say the least, but a ton of fun! Gig-wise, only managed to see P!nk in Ireland with a couple of mates back in June and, whilst it was certainly one of the more professional shows I have yet seen and the pop-rock star certainly does hoof her way around the stage with great momentum (the big highlight being her encore of So What, which saw her propelled over the stadium crowd in steel-hoop harness, spinning herself into a dizzying frenzy), the event itself left me a little cold, despite the blazing heat of the sunny weather. Her supports included Hockey (who happened to be very good, despite the non-plussed crowd reaction), Butch Walker and his Black Widows band (who happened to be quite milquetoast for a hard-rock band, not that the crowd seemed to mind) and Ireland’s premier commercial radio DJ (whose name has been banished from my memory forever).
3 Aug 2008, 01:19 by BlessedheartThat's right, I'm back with another list of greatness, this time from the year 2007.
Yeah, I know. It's pretty much 2009 now. I don’t always finish jobs in time. Got a problem with that? Fuck you!!!
When Blessedheart sets out to do something, he does it. Eventually.
Last year's (2006) list was tough as I struggled to think of ten albums - live albums, EPs and compilations don't count - worthy of such a lofty accolade as a place in the list. However, this year (2007) was the complete opposite. I have struggled to keep it down to ten because almost every album I have heard from 2007 has been brilliant. I mean, Porcupine Tree's 'Fear of a Blank Planet' didn't even make the final ten. How the hell did that happen? It's an amazing album! Seriously, go and buy it, even if you already have a copy.
Yes, that does say ‘buy’.
By the way, if anything I state in any of the tedious reviews below offends you, that's your problem, not mine.

2 Jan 2008, 02:55 by dpollardMy overall feeling about the year is that it was neither a treasure trove nor a flop. I picked up new albums by many bands to whom I'd never listened. Out of my top eight albums of the year, half of them were from bands new to me. Bands with whom I was already familiar had mixed results for their new albums. I pulled out five albums that demonstrated very exciting improvements over previous releases. I also pulled out six albums that fell flat compared to previous releases. I should note that some of these slips involved a follow-up to an off-the-charts good album. Thus some of these slips were still killer records.
I'm very happy that the disco high-hat trend has come and gone. Bands still use it, but it's not the defining feature of the landscape. And where it is, the band totally sucks.
Here are the lists ... enjoy!
Top records of the year:
Blanket Ice (Luff)
Icons, Abstract Thee (of Montreal)
Neon Bible (The Arcade Fire)
22 Dec 2007, 15:41 by bboysgirlI already compiled my favorite albums of 2007 list, but I've had a few friends ask me to recommend some other 2007 albums. Below are the albums I listened to in 2007 that I believe are worth checking out for one reason or another. A few of them almost made my favorite albums list. (Numbered for reading ease only.)
1. Untrue - Burial
Dark, dance songs -- the kind you would hear in a trendy bar with red walls, cubed furniture, and candles on the tables
Recommended Track: Archangel
2. I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master - Electric Six
Dance beats and humorous Tenacious D-like lyrics
Recommended Track: Down At McDonaldz
3. Piñata - Mexican Institute of Sound
Highly recommended! A fusion of sounds: latin, hip-hop, dance, rap, samples
Recommended Track: El Microfono
4. Dystopia - Midnight Juggernauts
Highly recommended! Catchy synth beats and space themes make this album irrestible. Justice called Midnight Juggernauts their favorite new artist.

23 Aug 2007, 19:40 by mrkvmOkay, I haven't posted here in over two months? Sad. This is supposed to the the place for me to post about music.
At the beginning of the year, I had this grand plan to try to review new music as it came out. This way, when it was time to do my year-end list, I'd be better off. That lasted for like one week, and now I'm looking at a long list of accumulated musical awesomeness. Plus, we haven't even gotten to the traditional year-end glut of goodness. Heck, I haven't even got my hands on the new M.I.A. yet, which everyone is seeming to love (it shows up in my mailbox this afternoon, thankfully).
Anyway, here's a list of great stuff so far this year, which is coming totally off the top of my head and certainly missing some things.
Amon Tobin:The Foley Room
The Arcade Fire:Neon Bible
Arthur & Yu:In Camera
Bat for Lashes:Fur and Gold
Caribou:Andorra (okay, I just got this, but it seems like it's gonna be great).
4 Aug 2007, 20:24 by larsmenselI am not even going to take credit for "discovering" these artists but they are just the ones that have both been amazing and surprising me this year, even if the albums in question weren't necessarily released this year.
Electrelane - No Shouts, No Calls
Nina Nastasia & Jim White - You Follow Me
Interpol - Our Love To Admire
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - B.R.M.C.
UNKLE - War Stories
