Biography

Norway, Alta

Nightcore consists of Thomas S. Nilsen and Steffen Ojala Søderholm from Norway, Alta. Mixing techno/dance music into faster and more happier sounds, their name, ‘Nightcore’, means that they are the core of the night, so listeners will dance all night long.
They first started making music with Dance eJay 2/3 for a school project; they got a 4+ on our first single, and 6 on the whole album, called ‘Energized’.

After this, they understood that they couldn’t come far with making music in Dance eJay so they began mixing music with their own personal, top secret program. Their next album was called ‘Summer Edition’. It was played in many CD-players in their hometown.
‘L’hiver’ is Their 3rd. album, French for winter. Then came ‘Sensaciòn’, Spanish for feeling. The goal was to make this the better one. After just 5 days the album has reached whole Finnmark, with big success.

Not sure when simply speeding up + re-pitching existing songs became known as remixing, but there you go...[7]

lol if you looked up the nightcore genre on YouTube, it's really popular with thousands of viewers and subscribers, why talk about something you know nothing about o.O

This is predominantly Happy Hardcore and Trance. Nightcore isn't a genre, it's just a blanket term used on YouTube not much unlike "J-Core" or "Speedycake" remixes. Most Nightcore emulators are not even remotely popular anyway, so the people who make them probably aren't worth a last.fm page named after their YouTube channel with ~15 listeners in most cases. You can go and do that if you'd like, but that's a lot of work for hardly any return.

Sometimes to do something well/correct you have to roll up your sleeves and put in a little effort. I like how succinct your solution is and it actually matches most remix formatting so I'm kind of surprised I didn't think of it. But if I were to differentiate between the works of these Norwegians and fan's there would still be muddying of my charts.

I fail to see your point. You claim it's not a genre yet gave a description of the musical styling of it. Also one reason I want to differentiate from the user made 'Nightcore' and the artist Nightcore is because the artist didn't just take a song and speed it up. They actually made their own songs or remixed songs. Another Night, Lucky Star, Dam Dadi Doo. Most of the stuff on this chart are fan made versions to try and make them sound the same as Nightcore's songs. Ravers Fantasy, Pretty Rave Girl, Forever Young. These are not by the group, but by fan's. Hence the desire to differentiate.

@Nyan-tan 712 scrobbles so far and counting unfortunately about 100 of them aren't by this group. But why do I care what other people think about what I listen to. I'm not so insecure that I have to 'fake' my listening history to gain approval from strangers. Also I legitimately enjoy this music. My friends know my music preference is really out there and it doesn't make a difference. There's a lot of hate towards this genre but you can pick any band and any genre and there will be haters. I'm thinking of changing the Artist for nightcore genre to something along the lines of User_Nightcore or Nightcore_Genre. Or maybe FanCore hmmm

Here's some quick history, Nightcore, these two Norwegians, put out some songs way back in 2002 and 2003. Then they pretty much disappeared. Someone then posted their songs online (youtube) and they become really popular. Users started making their own songs in the same style and tagged it as Nightcore. The genre was born and named after this group. Unfortunately every usermade song is listed as "Nightcore - Welcome to the Club" even though Nigthcore, this group, had nothing to do with it. It would be like tagging a Beatles cover done by you as The Beatles. That is not accurate. So songs made by this group Nightcore should be tagged as Nightcore to scrobble correctly. But how do you tag all the usermade videos that are just done in the same style. It is done in the style of Nightcore but not done by this group Nightcore. It's important to realize the difference between the two Norwegians named Nightcore and the style of music Nightcore.

Any thoughts on how to properly tag Nightcore. Obviously songs from Nightcore should be tagged as such but there are thousands of user made songs made in the same style titled as 'Nightcore' but I don't know how they should be tagged for scrobbling purposes.
