Night’s Bright Colors is an indie-pop group stated in 2002 by Asheville, NC-based songwriter Jason Smith. With the addition of multi-intrumentalist James Richards and violinist Maria Potapov, the group has released 4 albums known as the “Hospital Quartet”. Starting in 2006 with Love in the Asylum (recently re-released by Canadian label RCat Records), the loose narrative describes a story arc concerning two patients in a fictitious mental institution, exploring themes of medication/hallucination, dreams, memory, love and ultimately, redemption. Described as “a fascinating DIY production…a soundtrack for bittersweet happiness…” (komakino), musical touchstones might be Elliott Smith, Pixies, Elephant 6 bands, with a dash of Britpop. The albums are currently available for full audio stream at www.nightsbrightcolors.com.
