Biography

Nicholas Howard Barker is an extreme metal drummer (from Hillsborough, Sheffield now lives in Northwich, England). After several years of collaboration with British metal band Cradle of Filth, he joined Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. After being removed from the lineup, Barker went on to play with Brujeria, Old Man's Child and Lock Up.

Nicholas was also a live drummer for Norwegian Black Metal band, Gorgoroth, in 2007 and 2008.

As announced on January 15, 2008, Barker is also officially the new drummer for long-standing death metal band Atrocity, and Leaves' Eyes, which consists of the Atrocity lineup in addition to Norway's Liv Kristine.

As announced on May 26, 2008, Barker no longer is drumming for German/Norwegian gothic metal band Leaves' Eyes, which consists of the Atrocity lineup in addition to Norway's Liv Kristine due to "a drastic change in his private life."

Barker's technique incorporates fast double bass drumming, extremely accurate blast beats and fills and precise dynamic accuracy.

On Dimmu Borgir's 2002 "World Misanthropy" video, he mentioned the following names as important influences on his playing style: Neil Peart (Rush), Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad), Ringo Starr (The Beatles), Clive Burr, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), and Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel).
