NEWTOWN is an indie-rock band, based in the surroundings of Antwerp (B), embedded in a wide range of ingredients that creates a tasty rock sound, softly boiled or pure in overdrive. It results in a blend of hot bursts of energy with straightforward sounds that touch the heart.

In September 2010 a debut EP has been recorded in the Ghosttown Studio (Rudy Trouvé, Dead Man Ray, dEUS, …) and mastered by Uwe Teichert. This EP has been put in the spotlights by various Belgian music magazines and organizations (Clubcircuit, RifRaf, IndieStyle, Cutting Edge, daMusic, Musiczine). End 2010 Newtown did the support of The Walkmen (US) in Trix and ‘A General Idea’ has been picked up by various radio stations (Radio 1, FM Brussel, Urgent FM Gent, Villa Bota) and AB Radio (Jari’s Wonderland). More recently Newtown did the support of The Stranglers (UK) in CC Djoelen and Glasvegas (SCO) in Ancienne Belgique. Influences varies from Badly Drawn Boy, Motorpsycho to Built to Spill and Midlake, although people also often refer to Wilco, Giant Sand en The Coral.

About NEWTOWN debut EP in RifRaf Magazine:
‘… they sound as international as any recent Brittish or American hype. These boys seem to have a substantial record collection, full of variation. NEWTOWN makes contemporary guitar rock with echos of Wilco, The Coral, Giant Sand, Blur, Grant McLennan and Chuck Profet. Add the best of the Britpop and more melodic aspects of the Seattle scene, and this should give you an idea of Newtown’s sound. A strong debut.’
