August Revital has been really growing on me lately. Elizabeth Sharp is such a good drummer, and I think AR has the best drumming she did with NRSK on it. Love the seesawing guitar/drum polyrhythms in Forty-Seven...when the guitar/bass is in 4/4, the drums are in 3/4, and vice versa. Her intentionally stiff, mechanical style might be off-putting to some at first, but there's a wonderful intricacy there that I don't hear very often. Kind of comparable to Sara Lund's drumming with Unwound.

Yeah, it's sad how underrated these guys are- it seems like they're an amazingly well kept secret even among 90's "indie rock" aficionados. So consistently great throughout the decades, too. What really sets them apart for me, though, is their musicianship- they add just enough artfully subtle instrumental flourishes/etc to take music that is quntessentially 'approachable' to the next level. Anyways, my favorite is probably Hurricane Necklace, which I think I've played the most (along with Rival Time, my first). IMO, Hurricane and Singular were really the pinnacle of their complex instrumental thing before they decided to go in a poppier (but just as musically satisfying) direction. C/Swoon is such a great track...not to mention What Money? and the ending section of Lost In The Closet. And Phonecall, which might just become my official going-away-to-college song.
