Biography

Forming in Melbourne in 2002 from the demise of the much-respected and criminally unheard Perth group Sleepy Township, band members Mia Schoen and Chris Gorman (AKA Chrissy G) continued their love affair with melodic noisy pop inthe guise of New Estate. Along with New Zealanders guitarist Marc Regueiro-McKelvie and ex-Fur member Mindy Mapp they set about gigging and recording. After releasing the very favourably reviewed album “Considering…” (released on Kittridge Records in the US and W.Minc records in Australia), Mindy left to be replaced by bassist Brad Cosier meaning that all four members were now songwriters.

Garnering much radio play despite (or perhaps because) of the wilfully low-fi production values, off-kilter vocals and “gloriously shambolic” playing, New Estate toured the Australian east coast and released two EPs in 2005 on Melbourne label Low Transit Industries, and are due to release the LP “Is It Real?” in early 2007.
