• My Radio Head

    13 Sep 2007, 19:29 by SergeantDuckie

*Note: I'm writing this mostly 'cos I just like to know when I first heard an artist. I'm a bit obsessed with history like that. Not that me listening to something is like historical so much... nevermind.

I've never tried out the 'My Radio' function of but I decided to try it today.

so here's thoughts while listening to 'My Neighbourhood'

%Placebo- Never listened to 'em before. They're ... okay...

%Joanna Newsom- I've never listened to her before, being slightly intimidated by the large debate over whether her voice is fantastic or terrifying. I think my stance is now 'can only take so much'.

Untitled- Of course I've heard this one before, being a fan of 'In the Aeroplane'. I guess it's nice to hear it come up on this neighbourhood thing, but I don't actually like to listen to tracks from this album out of context; I feel like it's meant to be listened to as a whole.

Buddy Holly- Another I know well!

So I decided to try this thing out. Why the hell not? Check back every once in a while if you want to know what I'm listening to or thinking. I'll put up recommendations once in a while for myself and whoever else values my opinion on music.

    First Recommendation:
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

This is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. It is beautiful and extremely well written. I got into several months back, never really got out of it. Give it a couple of listens through. Honestly, you can't appreciate too much with only one go. Almost anything I've listened to has required at least a couple of listens for me to get any valid feeling for it. Neutral Milk Hotel is pretty indie as for as that genre goes. I believe there was a review for it by Slav in the Wildcat. That made me very happy.

My favorite tracks on here would have to be The King of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1, Oh Comely, and Ghost. Some other great ones are Holland, 1945 and Untitled. …

So, I should be doing a humongoid paper but I don't want to. It's due in the morning. That's a real, real shame. I dont know why I didn't listen to much music this week. I think this is just about the lowest amount of tracks I've listened to since I started this thingy. Well, here goes:

    1. Korn (+14, 20 plays): I didn't pay attention at all to what I listened to this week so this was a shocker. I can't wait until I see them live. They're supposed to play Clown which is just about my favorite KoRn song ever. I'm lying. It is now since I thought of it. I can see that this entry is going to be VERY lazy.
    Track of the Week: Clown

    2. Coheed and Cambria (+1, 19 plays): Looks like I went back to my staple bands this week. I've been a fan of Coheed since Devil in Jersey City came out though I didn't really get into them until I heard A Favor House Atlantic. That song made me buy both IKSSE:3 and SSTB (VERY lazy) on the same day.
Track of the Week: A Favor House Atlantic

Instead of trying to compose a list of my favorite songs which would be too difficult I thought I'd make a list of songs I've obsessed over one time or another. These are the ten songs I have listened to a dozen times on repeat and continue to listen to frequently.

    1. Between the Bars
    2. Those to Come
    3. Sailor War!
    4. Kaze ni Naritai
    5. The Fool
    6. Untitled
    7. Holland 1945
    8. Communist Daughter
    9. I'm Waking Up To Us
    10. Now My Heart Is Full

Well those are the top ten. Definetly not the complete list of songs I could have listed but I didn't want to make it unneccesarily long.

It's almost sad that NMH takes up almost half of the list...
Between the Bars I listened to about 50 times in succession once because as I wrote a paper on Porphyria's Lover it was the only song I felt like hearing at the time.
I'm Waking Up to Us is the single best B&S song ever.
