About This Track

As ‘the itnternets busiest music nerd, Anthony Fantano’ puts it, “The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. One” is like the opening of a book. Jeff Mangum’s Agressive, but rythmic acoustic strum is the first thing to strike a listener of “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea” and it provides a focused driving force to support Mangum’s abstract lyrics. The song seems to start of inocently, talking of a certain youth many years ago, but just over a minute later Mangum is singing about alcoholic mothers and dads dreaming of death. Despite the eclecticsm the song manages to be compelingly catchy enabling it to work as a whole. The ending is passionate but still instrumentally simple with only a howling accordion supporting Mangum’s strum.
