Neu! (the German word for "new", pronounced "noy") a band from Düsseldorf, Germany, were probably the archetypal example of what the UK music press at the time dubbed .   • Ouch! I've been listening to Neu! 2 in the car a lot lately. Great driving music. At one point I was in lockstep with the "Neu! 2 is a thrown-together mess" camp, but these days I might even consider 2 to be their best record. Hard to say, though, as the first three are all brilliant.

  • The best thing about Neu! is the fact that on their second album they ran out of money while recording it, so they just recycled some tracks, running them at different speeds, genius!
