Neosupervital is the nom-de-pop of Tim O’Donovan, a multi-instrumentalist from Dublin who is on the verge of releasing his second album; Proceeds later this year.
A debut album, Neosupervital, was released in late 2006 to general applause, some entertaining reviews (http://www.cluas.com/music/albums/neosupervital.htm) and a whole lot of live action, including opening slots for acts like Tom Vek, Money Mark, and Divine Comedy and a Neosupervital tour around Ireland. The video for Rachel was picked up by MTV2 and this was swiftly followed by a tour with the Human League in the UK and Europe.
Lauren Murphy, in her album review for entertainment.ie, exclaimed that “this is one man who definitely should give up the day-job”, so Tim has finally taken her advice and packed in the day job (drumming with BellX1) to focus on Neosupervital 24/7. This involved upping sticks and moving to Abbeyleix to get some good old fashioned solitude, and a house with no neighbours, to test out those drumbeats. On the record Tim plays drums, drum machines, electric guitars and synthesizers in addition to providing all the vocals, and the resulting album has some Chic style bass, Van Halen style guitars, Philip Bailey style falsetto and Tony Thompson style drums.
Last time out Neosupervital live was a band affair - with three other people on stage- but this time it’s just Tim going it alone. He’s playing guitar and synthesizer and singing onstage, and encourages you to dance and sing along. Indeed the first single; big on funk guitars, saucepan percussion, big synths and big drums, is called “Dance with You” and is out on July 9th. If you want Neosupervital to dance with you get along to the live shows in July.
