Biography

“Fuck the American Dream. It’s all trucks and cards and credit cards,” curses Josh Pillbox, the deranged musical architect behind Nature of City. He’s one angry motherfucker who’s out to simultaneously challenge and please the status quo and counterculture respectively.

Nature of City’s debut LP, Spacemen Need Earthsuits (released on Pillbox’s own Secks Records), is anything but easy listening - the record has been described as a ‘mental confrontation,’ ‘thought-provoking’ and ‘a swift kick in the ass. ’ Think Primus baking cupcakes with Beck and sprinkling Nine Inch Nails into the batter for a tad more flavor. This New York band is definitely out there and loving every centi-second of it.

Nature of City started out as Josh Pillbox’s solo project. He began his career under the mentorship of some pretty heavy hitters in the music industry including Tony Maserati (Jason Mraz/Beyonce/Black Eyed Peas), Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow/Bruno Mars), Vaughan Merrick (Mindless Self Indulgence/Chemical Brothers/Amy Winehouse), Zach Hancock (Mos Def/Alicia Keys), and James Sabella (Marcy Playground/Public Enemy/The Gathering). He single handedly financed and built his own commercial recording studio, Angry Lamb Studios, all before turning 19. Pillbox toiled on his own record for six years - writing, shaping, and perfecting it all to create an unapologetic, subversive sound plucked straight out of his twisted mind. At the same time he was producing local artists of all genres, gaining valuable experience for an up-and-coming producer and recording artist.
