After listening to Natalie Walker
's singles over the last couple of months (No One Else
), I've been anxiously awaiting the release of Urban Angel
, which came out this past Tuesday. After giving myself a few days to digest it, I thought I'd offer my thoughts on it.
What I expected from her was a phenomenal album. I expected every track to be as good or better than her singles. I expected to be completely blown away for every second of the album. I expected one of the best albums I'd ever heard.
It didn't happen.
What did happen, though, was a very good album. For a solo debut, she did a great job. There's not a song on there that I don't like, and there's several that I already love. Waking Dream
is an absolute gem - I'm very much digging that song!! Her cover of The Counting Crows
is spectacular; I'd go so far as to say it gives the original a run for its money as to which is better. Right Here
is such a beautiful song. Very simple, just piano and vocals, but very moving.
