myGRAIN is a modern metal band from Helsinki, Finland. They are currently signed to Spinefarm Records. They have released three studio albums.

myGRAIN saw daylight in the summer of 2004, as Tommy (vocals), Resistor (guitar) and Matthew (guitar) were standing in the ruins of their former band, New Science Band. The guys had been playing together since 1999 and their collaboration still worked well, so they decided to start a new band with this lineup. The main idea from the beginning was to play rough metal with melodies. DJ Locomotive (drums) and Eve (synths) soon joined the band’s lineup. Jonas handled the bass for the two self-financed demo CDs and after recording the second one, The Red Frame, in April 2005 he permanently joined the band. A few weeks after the recordings, Spinefarm contacted myGRAIN and they inked a deal. The first fruit of the collaboration was the debut album Orbit Dance, released in April 2006.

The debut album consisted of eleven songs of modern metal – with influences of both Nordic melodic death metal and the American style. As myGRAIN is considered to be on its best on live performances, they focused on touring in Finland as much as possible after the release of Orbit Dance. They still managed to write songs in between the gigs so in February 2008 their second album Signs of Existence was ready to be released. The album has developed myGRAIN’s rough but melodic sound into deeper and more confident style than ever before.

    I wouldn't say underrated I mean they sound just like Naildown, Disarmonia Mundi and Before the dawn and they have about the same amount of listeners. I would say Mygrain's level of renown is reasonable.

    for me modern metal means fusion genre,that includes elements from Power/melodic death/metalcore and thrash metal,also some electronics/keyboards...Melodic Death Metal bands like MyGrain can be easily classified as "modern"!

    Modern just describes something that can be related to our current time. Like the extensive use of keyboards in their music. But is it still called modern in 50 years, I don’t think so. It’s melodic death metal. We’ve got enough metal genres already, don’t start inventing new ones when it’s not necessary.

    v modern metal isn't a genre. Mygrain is a modern version of melodeath, the underlining style still exists, there's really no other genre to classify this band under.. although their latest album is more power metal oriented.
