Lay Low (6:20)

Cover of Z

From Z and 15 other releases

“Lay Low” is the eighth track on My Morning Jacket’s critically acclaimed 2005 album Z. Unlike the majority of the rest of the album which found the band exploring new musical territory (e.g., dub, reggae, electronica), “Lay Low” is arguably the song on the album most reminiscent of the band’s earlier sound. The song incorporates southern rock, country, and jam band elements. Clocking in at just over six minutes, the first half of “Lay Low” contains a basic two-verse song structure before breaking off into a stunning guitar duel of epic proportions.

Lay low, why don't you now?
Lay back awhile and I'll show you
I got the good that you want, no
Need to go and hunt something else

the way the duel guitars in the second half go off on their own and converge on each other again is probably one of the greatest things i've ever heard in music [2]

This song is NOT a good song to play before bed because it makes you all revved up and ready to go. Ideal for a road-trip, or to play before a much anticipated gig or festival! :)
