My Friend George was formed in Aalborg in the summer of 1995. Rallie had previously played guitar in the punk band Scoff and Martin (drums) and Jesper (bass) found them selves without a band, as they had just been sacked from the one they used to play with. The three high-school buddies decided to form a new band, naming themselves after a song by Lou Reed. During the following year they recorded a couple of cassettes (Discovering the Unlimited Joys of a 6-track Recorder and Covering Their Own Songs) in the flat Jesper used to share with Oceano da Cruz, and in Martin’s basement. They all contributed songs and sounds and mostly took their inspiration from American lo-fi bands.

They soon started gigging around Aalborg, but needed someone to handle the bass. They talked Simon from the local hardcore gurus Six-pence (also an ex-member of Scoff) into doing his thing and Jesper switched to guitar for good. My Friend George took a short break in the beginning of 1997, but started work on a 7” later that year. Having trouble with the recording equipment and the fact that members of the band did some travelling and moving about, they chose to quit the project. However, they still played live once in a while.
