‘Hysteria’ was released on Muse’s third studio album ‘Absolution’ in 2003. It was the fourth single to be released from ‘Absolution’ preceded by ‘Sing for Absolution’. It was released on December 1st, 2003. The main single featured the b-side ‘Eternally Missed’.

The song’s main bass line originated on guitar, but was moved to bass as the band believed it gave a better sound, and to free up the guitar to play a more melodic part.

The song was first played live in April 2002, and has been more or less ever-present in Muse’s setlists since the Absolution era, and is usually played towards the start of the set.

This song was made available on the European version of Rock Band.

The track also features as the title backing track on the UK broadcasting for Moto GP
