About this album

The Moon EP is the first CD available from Seattle rock/ska/reggae band Moon. It was recorded in the summer of 2010 at Titan Recording Studio in Shoreline, WA and mixed & mastered at Red Robin Works in Seattle, WA. Ambitious in scope, this 6-song EP covers the gamut from reggae (I Ain’t Gonna Crawl) to ska (One Step Beyond), rock (Go Ahead & Say Goodbye) to funk (Karma). Considering the band had only been together for about 4-5 months, that’s not a bad achievement.

The players on this album are Ben Dorcy - sax & lead vocals Luke Swart - bass, vocals; Ken Cruz - drums, vocals, and Robin Ray - guitar, vocals. If one listens closely one can perceive their influences - No Doubt, The Specials, The Clash, Sublime, and The Police. What makes this EP - and Moon - stand apart from their contemporaries is the fact that the lead singer triples as their entire horn section and soloist.

By happenstance, one other element which characterizes their sound is the backgrounds of the four players. Ben, born & bred in Washington state, is joined by Luke from San Diego, Ken from Guam, and Robin from the Caribbean island of Trinidad - land of calypso, roti & carnival. Whether by design or accident, this is what makes The Moon EP so special: it’s alive with the rhythms of the islands.
