(2004 – present)

Monsters of Folk is an indie supergroup consisting of Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes and several other groups), Mike Mogis (of Bright Eyes and Lullaby for the Working Class), Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and M. Ward (of She & Him as well as a successful solo musician). All share guitar duties, with Oberst, Ward and James sharing vocals. Ward also plays keyboards and Mogis and James play drums on the album. In 2010, the band’s touring drummer, Will Johnson of Centro-matic, became the band’s official fifth member.

Monsters of Folk originally came together in 2004 and toured as Bright Eyes, with Jim James and M. Ward, and developed the name Monsters of Folk while on tour. The band released their self-titled debut album on September 22, 2009 on Shangri-La Music.

Love MOF, so sad I never got to see them live, was listening to them on shuffle and then old school Leonard Cohen came up, found out he's got a new album out...not gonna lie interested to see what he comes up with, can't wait for 1/31

A whole road trip listening to them for the first time drove me crazy. I swore the vocalist sounded just like Conor Oberst ._.;; Sad I'm just finding this now, I can't believe I was completely unaware of them. soo good.

Ahead of the curve: by far the best song. The lyrics are just so simple and easy to relate to, and still so deep in a certain way... I'm in love with it!

So crazy- you can hear a little Bright Eyes, MMJ, and M.Ward in the album. Truly a group effort..

Love the band members separate projects. madly in love with "Dear God." But man this album is such a snoozer, I bought it last year and tried giving it some more listens, thought maybe it'd grow on me... nope. Just reminds me of why I don't like country- it sounds too much like it- bland and uninspiring. :(
