Wouldn't be very INFORMATIVE. However, I love Mono and I love this album. After Junius' and Immanu El's releases, my favourite post rock album of the year.

Quicksand227 - that's a valid critique of this band and post-rock in general. They can come off as too ambient and dull I guess. I love them but would recommend Mogwai or Godspeed first. Still, Mono's stuff is more subtle and unique than other cookie-cutter post-rock: less loud vs quiet, blatant "pretty melodies," huge cresendos, etc. If you like more heavy, metal or experimental, check out stuff like Jesu, "farewell" by Boris, or any "post-metal."

I'm really trying to appreciate them, but all I've heard so far (live and on CD) is just repetetive, mediocre post-rock, nothing special or unique at all. Can anyone please explain to me why this band should be any better than a band out of the large pool of post-rock bands which all sound basically the same?

It's probably the best instrumental rock album I've heard so far because it connects the essential of the common post-rock sound with something different, unique and innovative. There is something more than just using the volume of guitars as a method to create a particular dynamic, but its advantages are fortunately used, though. The song structure never become monotonous. I wish that there would be more bands that "advance" the common post-rock sound like Mono did with this album.
