There are at least two bands called Mongrel: a hip-hop/indie rock band from the UK and a punk band from the U.S.

Mongrel are a hip-hop indie band formed in Sheffield, England in 2008, consisting of Jon McClure (Reverend and The Makers), Low-key (Poisonous Poets), Andy Nicholson and Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), Drew McConnell (Babyshambles), Joe Moskow (Reverend and The Makers), and Jagz Kooner.

The band released their first album Better Than Heavy on the 7th March 2009, and are due to tour later this year. The content of their music is political, with the majority of their songs having lyrics which challenge government issues. The band have announced they will play a show at London’s Boston Arms on November 5, with a four track digital EP due for release the same day. Released on the Wall of Sound label, the EP feature debut track The Menace.

Mongrel from Eastern Massachusetts are a metal- and hard-rock-influenced punk band formed in 2003, with vocalist Drew Barker, guitarist Adam Savage, bassist Rev, and drummer Ed Loguercio. Mongrel has toured extensively throughout the U.S., sharing stages with metal and punk legends such as Fear, The Misfits, GWAR, Dizzy Reed (Guns N’ Roses), The Exploited, and Prong. Their album Fear, Lies, and Propaganda was re-released in 2008 on Screaming Ferret Records.

I can't quite wrap my head around the fact all these guys got together and the best thing they could decide on is a rap group. This could have been so much better if they played on their strengths, instead of trying to do something crazy. A for effort though.

Agree with Xurk... Heard it a couple of times, and though I might sound a bit pretentious... here it goes: I found that the production lacked a bit of depth. Most of the time it sounded really flat considering the layers it has. I liked it, but it wasn't what I expected, though I will play it every now and again. Considering the political message was very strong and I agree with most of it, it felt to me at times a little bit forced and strained. It is great that they want to raise awareness, but on one of the listens I simply ignored the lyrics as it was just too much 'protest'. Not very civil of me to ignore it, but you can make your point without the need of ramming it down peoples' throats. A good effort and not bad. Though not impressed, I liked it and will play it now and again.
