Well. Modest Mouse. Where do I even begin with this. First of all, it's common knowledge that their setlists these days are slightly amiss. Not because they're playing all their bad songs, because that's certainly not the case. Rather, everything they play these days comes from Good News For People Who Love Bad News, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, and the occasional couple off their latest EP, No One's First and You're Next. Naturally you're going to also hear a couple off of The Moon & Antarctica, but those are very few and far between. Which sucks because if you know me you know I herald that album as one of the best things ever made.
So with that in mind you go in there with your expectations rather neutral. You know that the songs aren't going to be exactly what you want to hear, but that it's friggin Isaac Brock and everything he does is guaranteed to entertain. And I mean, I enter with wild fantasies of hearing Night on the Sun, which is my favorite song of theirs. …

31 Dec 2009, 06:56 by justfetusFirst up, a handful of albums that didn't make the list (in no particular order)...
The Mars Volta - Octahedron
The Mars Volta has progressively made less coherent albums since releasing De-Loused in the Comatorium, their debut album. This culminated in the release of Bedlam In Goliath last year, where they kind of went batshit insane. I was expecting Octahedron to be:
Instead, Octahedron was boring. BORING?! Yes, boring. It's as if Bedlam in Goliath was an orgasm (a not-that-great one) and Octahedron was the afterglow. Don't get me wrong, The Mars Volta is still crazy in their musicianship, with pounding drums, an amazing guitarist, and a unique vocalist. It's just that this is so tame compared to the rest of their work that I don't even want to listen to it. I'd say this is a good introduction to them, but only that. However, it is still worth listening to.

15 Dec 2009, 05:32 by to_havalinaHello All,
2009 was an exciting year in the music world, and indie rock has never been more relevant. Below is a list (in order) of my top 50 tracks from this past year. According to my iTunes tags, I have about 3000 tracks from this past year, and I admit, I have yet to listen to them all. So I apologize in advance if you think me to be a fool because I'm missing an obvious choice for a list of such epic proportions. Again, I apologize, I have not listened to everything. These are just some of the songs that decided to stick around in my head for a little while.
Oh, and if you're interested, I posted two links (one file was too big to upload on which contains my "Best Of" playlist. Enjoy and thank you for reading!
Top 50 Songs of 2009.
01. "Two Weeks" - Grizzly Bear
02. "Sun Was High (So Was I)" - Best Coast
03. "What Would I Want? Sky" - Animal Collective
04. "No Intention" - Dirty Projectors
