  • An account of the music of the year 2007

    26 Dec 2007, 05:23 by kashmir91086

Welcome to yet another account of the music of the year 2007. Undoubtedly, there are many releases which I did not listen to. If you did not find what you were looking for (as far as an album which I did not recapitulate here), give me another year, and maybe I’ll listen to it. If you are upset with a “rating” which I gave an album, you are free to express your opinion as a comment. If you are happy with a “rating” which I gave an album, you are free to express your opinion as a comment. Any general opinions regarding my list are also welcome as comments. I may respond to your comments. You are not obligated to read the whole journal entry, but it would be impressive if you did. Now here goes.

    This is music?

TurisasThe Varangian Way: Listening to this album was roughly an hour of my life I’ll never have back. In The Court Of Jarislief was the only song I thought memorable.

    Garbage, refuse…the like:

EditorsThe End Has A Start: I can’t remember anything from this LP. That’s a bad sign.

  • Rock Show - 2007.06.02 - Modest Mouse - Georg Elser Hallen, München, Germany

Wed 6 Jun – Modest Mouse

Ahhh, let me tell you something.
There's nothing like a rock show to help you get your mind off your burning appendicitis...
That day started pretty bad, actually it started the night earlier when I couldn't sleep because of what I thought at first to be another Colitis crisis, evil things I have been having for years once in a while.
Brings you down to your knees, in pain, with nothing else to do than to just wait with your misery, and eventually to take painkillers and stomach medications.

When morning came and I realized it started to be really stronger and worse that the usual crisis, my boss brought me to a doctor, who sent me home after a few ultra sounds and a painkiller IV to get me going.

Diagnostic: well, we don't know, if that get worse, report to the nearest hospital with a big suspicion of appendicitis.

Here's for the broad description of my day. Did nothing, waited for the time of the show.

  • Modest Mouse Concert

    7 May 2007, 05:43 by ModestMadison

Just thought I would document my experience about the Modest Mouse concert I went to on Friday. In one word, it was brilliant. The first band that played (Love As Laughter) was decent. I probably would have enjoyed them more if I had listened to them prior to the concert, but it's all good. The lead singer almost had a Bob Dylan sound to him.

The second band that played, Man Man, was FANTASTIC. I had heard/seen some of their songs on YouTube, and had really enjoyed it. They are quite a...unique band. They play pretty much everything, including pots, pans, and themselves. I suggest everyone listen to the song "Engrish Bwudd." It's my favorite so far.

Now, as for Modest Mouse....well, they took a long time to take the stage, but I didn't really mind waiting. Plus, Naaman and I were about 10-15 feet from where Isaac was, so we had good spots. Their playlist was excellent. Of course they played 'Dashboard' and 'Float On.' I was also extremely happy that they played 'Education' from their new album…

    Modest Mouse - Education

I have mixed feelings about the new album. When I first heard it, I loved it. It could have just been the sheer joy of hearing new Modest Mouse. Ah, the initial lust of any new relationship... But the more I listen to the new album the less it agrees with me. It has a few songs on it that I am really digging, but I would even venture to say that I like Good News better. Maybe with time, you know, after I've gotten to know each of the tracks a little better, the lust that I've lost will be replaced with solid loving emotions. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, I'm going to listen to Education on repeat until I grow tired of the funky porn guitar, driving beat, and witty lyrics.
  • Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank REVIEW

    1 Apr 2007, 19:25 by BrooksMurphy

We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

March into the Sea” starts out the album well with the band’s signature minor builds and changeups in tempo and intensity. The lyrics seem to unfortunately play to the rhythm of the song rather than tell any type of story or detailed account of anything. Besides that randomness, the song is tight and fun and plays out very well.
Dashboard” is the poppiest and worst song on the album, but it’s not necessarily bad. It seems to be trying to describe a state of hopelessness and ultimate acceptance. It’s like a road trip gone wrong and then finding that it going wrong is a blessing. It’s a fun song, fun like ice cream sunny days fun.
With “Fire it Up” it makes itself evident that there’s a theme of travel and deserted desert kind of transportation break down running through the album. The lyrics are a little more organized as an analogy for something that “Dashboard” also touches on. Ultimately the song is kind of boring in it’s delivery…
