I saw Modest Mouse on this day at the Rialto. It was, for me at least, the best song of the night. The entire audience sang the opening "I was in heaven/I was in hell/Believe in neither/But fear them as well." But what really got me was the freakout jam at the end. It was tight and powerful, everything you'd hope to see at a Modest Mouse show.
I've been listening to the song a fair deal since the show and the original totally holds up. It's raw, powerful, and means something. I think that is why people always complain about the newer stuff. On a lot of the new tracks they've lost some of their raw power. Don't get me wrong, I like the new stuff but it's rare that it RAWKs as hard as the old stuff. The result was that the old stuff generally made a better transition to the stage then the newer stuff.

Ahhh, let me tell you something.
There's nothing like a rock show to help you get your mind off your burning appendicitis...
That day started pretty bad, actually it started the night earlier when I couldn't sleep because of what I thought at first to be another Colitis crisis, evil things I have been having for years once in a while.
Brings you down to your knees, in pain, with nothing else to do than to just wait with your misery, and eventually to take painkillers and stomach medications.
When morning came and I realized it started to be really stronger and worse that the usual crisis, my boss brought me to a doctor, who sent me home after a few ultra sounds and a painkiller IV to get me going.
Diagnostic: well, we don't know, if that get worse, report to the nearest hospital with a big suspicion of appendicitis.
Here's for the broad description of my day. Did nothing, waited for the time of the show.

Well, I'd never thought I'd get to see Modest Mouse once in my life, but I guess I got lucky.
And what a great concert it was, one of the best I've seen in these last few years, that's for sure.
When we arrived we saw Isaac walking off the venue, and we got a bit starstruck and didn't even had the time to say hi that he got past us. But we were the first to see his black eye, wonder how he got that?
The eye looked even worse on stage, all red and purple, but it was even part of the show, made him look the more like a madman while he screamed off.
The venue was flooded with americans, some even looking very young like 13/14; they barely knew the most famous songs, and they looked at us like aliens when we screamed our lungs off to Tiny Cities and The View, haha! It was quite hard to hear someone speaking italian, almost looked like we were seeing them in a different country (or should I say 'different city'?).
20 May 2007, 00:08 by omskovietSo, I'm gonna dump some brilliant song lyrics right in this journal. Just had some time to kill. I already hate myself for all other good lyrics I forgot to mention below.
Lives - Modest Mouse
Everyone's afraid of their own life
If you could be anything you want
I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?
No one really knows the ones they love
If you knew everything they thought
I bet that you'd wish that they'd just shut up
Well, you were the dull sound of sharp math
When you were alive
No ones gonna play the harp when you die
And if I had a nickel for every damn dime
I'd have half the time, do you mind?
Dark Center of the Universe - Modest Mouse
Well died saying something, but we didn't mean it
Everyones life ends but no one ever completes it
Range Life - Pavement
Out on tour with the smashing pumpkins
Nature kids, they dont have no function
I dont understand what they mean
And I could really give a fuck.
3rd Planet - Modest Mouse
The universe is shaped exactly like the earth if you go

Just saw Modest Mouse at the Hummingbird Centre, which seems like a place for excellent acoustics.
The opening act was decent standard hard/soft blues-rock fare, but they only mentioned the name of their drummer, which was kind of weird.
However, MM's set itself was hella-awesome. I haven't really sat down and listened to the new album, but it and "Good News..." material dominated the set. Every song was played powerfully and excellent, the bass set just right to rumble the nose-bleed seats where I could be found. Everybody was tight, and at the very least Johnny Marr demonstrates what a good fit he is as a live Modest Mouser (especially on Education.) I hope in the future he carves a deeper niche as he seemed somewhat under-utilized for such a distinctive guitarist.
The highlights of the night were definitely Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, followed by Doin' the Cockroach. If the rest of the set was beautifully tight…
7 Apr 2007, 16:52 by evilsoybeanApril 1, 2007: Theologians- This song is gorgeous. My favorite Wilco song. Maybe it's just cause I'm a sucker for piano.
April 2, 2007: My Love- Yes, I finally bought into the JT hype. I resisted this song for as long as I could, just to prove that I'm not a slave to Pitchfork and/or popular culture. Turns out I am, but I don't care. It's fun.
April 3, 2007: Evil Is- Dun-dun-dun-dun-DUN! METAL CLICHES! I'm pretty sure it's not what Early Man intended, but this song is so cheesy it's fun. As opposed to, say, Boris, who I completely respect as metal band, and most other metal bands who just suck. There's a hint of ironic fun to be found in Early Man. It's just hard to take them seriously with those lyrics.
April 4, 2007: Danger! High Voltage- Oh man, I'm addicted to this song. Fake British accents, Jack White sounding like a woman, a funky bassline, and several catchy phrases to yell. What more could I want?
April 5, 2007: Quedate Luna- Beautiful. …
