Biography

Mler Ife Dada was a portuguese band formed by Nuno Rebelo, Augusto França, Pedro d’Orey and Kim, in 1984. With this line-up, the band launches its first maxi-single: Zimpó. The songs on this EP were in English, except for the title-single.

Pedro d’Orey leaves the group and is substituted by Filipe Meireles, but he was called to make obligatory military service, and Kim also leaves the group (he would return only for some concerts, in 1988). The singer Anabela Duarte and the brothers Zezé and Nini Garcia join in 1986 by invitation of Nuno Rebelo. Later on, the saxophonist José Pedro Lorena joins.

In 1987 they release “Coisas que Fascinam”, where all the styles of the group are condensed ranging from experimentalism, to cape-verdian coladeras (“Siô Djuzé”), to fado “Alfama”.

In 1989, the Mler If Dada record their second LP “Espírito Invisível” that, although critically acclaimed, was not well taken by the radios. Only the track “Walkman Man” has some success. Due to this small promotion, the invitations to shows started decreasing, and Anabela leaves the group and is substituted by Sofia Amendoeira.

The band edits another EP, but will disintegrate definitely shortly after.

The two LP’s of the group were re-edited into the collection “Coração Português” (Portuguese Heart), by Polgram, with original covers, and the CD itself resembling old vinyl disc.

In 2003, Universal edits the compilation “Pequena Fábula” that includes new versions of “Zuvi Zeva Novi” and “L’Amour Va Bien, Merci”.
