(1998 – present)

Mistake Theory came to public attention after gaining a coveted Artist Spotlight on the former mp3.com. This rocketed them to the no.1 slot on the Trip-Hop charts as well as much local and international interest.

The music , although influenced by the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack, established a truly unique sound, a main factor being the amazing vocals of Sonya Todd. Dark, brooding atmospheres with beautiful melodies combine to make a memorable and evocative listening experience.

Alan Brown and Johnny Fleury formed Mistake Theory in mid-1998. The initial inspiration was from Trip-Hop bands like Massive Attack and Portishead, quickly growing to encompass a range of influences from UK drum n’bass to industrial electronica.

Vocalist Sonya Todd joined soon after, and Matthias Sudholter arrived late 1998 adding a human element to the rhythms.

A 5-track demo was recorded. They decided to gauge Internet interest on mp3.com. The results were unprecedented, gaining an Artist Spotlight on mp3.com and huge interest globally and here in New Zealand.

Recording continued and they released a self-titled CD early 2000. Since that CD was released, we completed three other.

Mistake Theory are no longer active as a band, but that doesn’t exclude the possibility of future recordings.
