Biography

MISS EMILY BROWN invites you to disappear into the hush of her creation. Using autoharp, guitar, pianet and music boxes, she creates an intricate fog for verse to lose its way. Lyrics read like notes dropped on the sidewalk, letters from a cowgirl, entries from a grandmother’s diary. These haunting, minimalist compositions will make you forget that you have heard everything before.

Miss Brown’s equally weighted background in folk and jazz, combined with her enthusiasm for electronic music and improvisation, give her performances a notably innovative quality. As part of a diverse arts community from across Canada, she is often joined by her talented friends on cello, fiddle, electronics, upright bass or slide guitar.

Miss Emily Brown’s recordings range from unprocessed, live-off-the-floor tracks such as Moose Along the Tree Llne or Break to electronic montage pieces like Rainbows, Djs and Paper Moon.
