London, United Kingdom (1990 – 2000)

Miranda Sex Garden are a band formed in London, UK, in 1990, currently on an extended hiatus. Originally a trio of singers comprising Kelly McCusker, Jocelyn West and main vocalist Katharine Blake. The first album, “Madra”, was entirely , with the songs all based on English verse. For their second release, the mini album “Iris”, the sound evolved into a blend of their madrigal-styled vocals with sounds reminiscent of , and . It was at this point the band line up expanded to include Ben Golomstock and Trevor Sharpe providing percussion, drums, guitars and organs.

The band line-up stayed stable for the release of the next album, named after a Dario Argento’s film, “Suspiria”, which is where the bands full sound was realized. A spin-off band, “The Waltzing Maggots” were gigging around this time, taking their name from the bizarre tracks “Widdle Biddle and His Waltzing Maggot”, and “Willie Biddle in His Watery Grave”.

Around the time of their third album, “Fairytales of Slavery”, they said they wanted to create music that evoked a “seductive garden of earthly delights, full of color and chaos”. For the release of the “Peepshow” single the band actually played naked in the window of one of the main record stores in London with the windows blocked out apart from a peephole apparently…

The band took a hiatus after the release of “Fairytales of Slavery” during which founder member Katharine Blake formed the wildly successful all girl band Mediaeval Baebes who debuted at number 1 in the classical charts with their “Salva Nos” album.

Must be all part of the evil CBS master plan since their takeover, I guess. :(

I am aware of that and that's what I am saying. You should check out these profiles top artists and plays: original I guess and fakes IMO, Before In MSG top artists you'd see f.e. Mediaeval Baebes, Faith and the Muse, Cranes etc. Now it's a mess.

@vidarth : Do you honestly think MSG are somehow unique in this regard to their similar artists on It's just the lazy nature of this beast. Similar artists aren't compiled in any subjective comparative manner; it's just 'Big Data' making comparisons between common listeners play lists. "Similar Artists" are more precisely "Statistically Similar Listener Tastes". If people genuinely want to explore more music that sounds similar to MSG; sus out these tag clouds: & (in which MSG appears as a Top played artist at this time of writing.

The list of top similar artists shown here is totally random. It does not reflect MSG's sound at all. And it's been like this for some time now, since some stupid troll decided to copy and hack scrobbles of certain users and inset them on multiple fake accounts, resulting in messed up similar artists.

Honestly I don't think she'll ever ressurect of the reasons that she suspended the band in the first place, was her tiredness of hard drumming and noise music. Other thing is the commercial succes of the Mediaeval Baebes...which MSG had never achieved. I think it is more likely, that in few years, when she'll be too old to be a "baebe", she'll focus more on her side project with her husband Nick Marsh.
