Version 5

The Minutemen were a punk rock trio from San Pedro, CA. comprised of guitarist/vocalist D. Boon and his childhood friend, bassist/vocalist Mike Watt, along with a former high school classmate on drums, George Hurley.

Their songs had odd structures and rarely exceded a minute in length, making some believe that this brevity was behind the naming of their band, but the trios name was derived partly because of the fabled Minutemen Militia of colonial times, and partly to take the name back from a right-wing reactionary group of the 1960s.

The only thing that could stop them was the very foundation of the band itself. When D. Boon died in a tragic car accident in 1985, the band, by its nature of feeding off of the close friendship of Mike Watt and D. Boon, had to end as well, thus ending The Minutmen.
