I'm sorry. For something I didn't do. Lynched somebody but I don't know who.
You blame me for slavery. A hundred years before I was born.
Guilty of being white.

white people are less likely to: die of starvation and disease /// live and die under u.s. military occupation /// be killed or arrested by police /// work in sweatshops or die at work /// be convicted of crimes or imprisoned /// white people are more likely to: find housing, water, and healthcare /// make headlines when missing /// be hired or get into college

@ngk44 I agree with this, and I just picture a young kid getting beat up that's too young to even know why. It's a sensitive topic and there's a reason why Minor Threat is probably one of the only bands in common knowledge that have a song with this message. Bottom line, judgement based on color shouldn't happen at all, and it's fucked up that it happened, but the only way to grow is from progression. This is what the song is trying to do. Actually pretty zen.

Great song, great message. I will concede that privilege exists however. On the same note all the white, middle-upper class, pink haired, pierced girls on Tumblr need to stop speaking on behalf of black folk and they should check THEIR privilege. Just because you reblog a bunch of shit from "PoC" doesn't mean that your opinion is suddenly more valid.

@rincewindsw: So, basically, what you're saying is that two wrongs make a right, so anti-white racism is okay?

"Okay, I lived in a predominantly black school system while growing up, and was bullied for it. That's what this song is about. Evil is evil, prejudice is prejudice, no matter who does it."

People who think this song has a racist message aren't listening right. It's intended as a criticism of all people, white or black, who think that anyone alive today can be held at all responsible for events that occurred 200 years ago. It's a statement of how illogical the idea of "white guilt" is, of how evil isn't hereditary, and of how it's ridiculous to blame the horrific crimes of slavery on an innocent party, based purely on the colour of their skin. "Reverse" racism is still racism, people, and it's equally wrong.

Every race has been oppressed, every ethnic group has discriminated against at one point in history. GET THE FUCK OVER IT, you suburban shitheads.

i don't agree with the sentiment of this song either - surely there people who abuse the concept of privilege but come the fuck on, nobody is placing literal blame on people born 100 years after the fact. lots of people in my country (australia) refused to support the government's apology to indigenous australians for a history of violence, dispossession and exclusion, as if they thought they would literally be admitting guilt for something that occurred before they are born. it is acknowledgement and respect for the fact of inequality, it's not a competition about who has it worse on an individual basis ._.

"it's racist because of the "i was born post-slavery so you cant blame me" privileged shit " that's dumb. Really dumb. Unless you think you actually can blame someone for something that happened a hundred years before they were born.

Paul Mooney: "Everybody's a nigger. Those white folks DNA'ed everybody on the planet and traced it back to one black woman in Africa. Unless you're Frankenstein or a clone, she's your mammy."

Ah, but you've just proven Ian MacKaye's point, that simply being born a member of a race makes you guilty of everything that your race has done since the beginning of recorded history.
