Fr., 12. Dez. – CLUB NME PARIS #4

Vendredi 12 décembre, et déjà la quatrième édition du Club NME Paris, la soirée britannique qui fait danser les petits frenchies sur le son de la nouvelle scène anglaise. Crée d’après le célèbre magasine du même nom en 2004, Club NME est devenue une référence en matière de live à ne pas rater. Récit d’une soirée très...spéciale.

A 23h30, une bonne partie de la jeunesse rock de Paris est sur le dancefloor de l’Elysée Montmatre et attends de pied ferme le premier groupe. C’est Minitel Rose qui ouvre le bal. Ils sont français, certes, mais n’ont rien à envier à nos amis anglais. Leur pop new wave accroche et fait remuer les premiers rangs de la fosse. Ils semblent revenir tout droit du futur pour faire danser les amateurs de musique électro, venus nombreux ce soir. Mais ce n’est qu’un échauffement...

9. We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery


Never understood why this album was seemingly hated compared to With Love and Squalor or at least thrown into the stereotypical bad mainstream sophomore album ideology. This album is full of many great tracks, especially the Daft Punk-sampled Chick Lit and the new-wave influenced Lethal Enforcer.

8. Late of the Pier - Fantasy Black Channel


It took me many listens to "get" this band...to understand just how freaking cool this music was. What did it for me was seeing the video for Focker, linked here. Definitely "Coolest" Band of the Year.

7. These New Puritans - Beat Pyramid


The number of surreality. This band makes me want to move to the UK.

6. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours


Cut Copy, I thank you for getting me into Australian dance music and reopening my eyes to electronic music again. I'll admit I like Bright Like Neon Love more, but this album is quite fantastic beginning to end. Australia wouldn't be bad to move to either.

5. Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires


Thanks must go to Decoymusic.com for getting me into Friendly Fires. A near perfect album which combines many of the best parts of some other bands that I only sort of like (The Rapture, Bloc Party, etc).

4. Innerpartysystem - Innerpartysystem


Definitely one of my most anticipated albums coming into this year, and I wasn't the slightest disappointed. In a genre that is quickly getting oversaturated with cheesy and just plain bad electro-rock bands, tight songs, great beats, and a top live performance places Innerpartysystem as one of the best right now.

3. Foals - Antidotes


Not much needed to say except that you're doing yourself a great disservice if you have not allowed yourself to listen to this album. Just love their sound.

2. The Presets - Apocalypso


This cd was given to me at a Cut Copy show early this year and at first several listens, I absolutely hated Julian's singing. It was the only thing I could focus on and even had to force myself to give the album a couple more listens. But damn, how this album has grown on me.

1. Fear Before - Fear Before


Here's your warning...If you like anything else in my list, I wouldn't recommend this album, or if you like this album, you may not like anything else on my list. Simply put, this album is quite unlike any of my other favorites from this year.

It's hard for me to say that this album was Fear Before's (the March of Flames) best because I like each album for different reasons. This album is reminiscent of Radiohead's post-Kid A release, Amnesiac. Following their primarily electronic-based album The Always Open Mouth, the self-titled combines what made their previous releases great and unique into one album.

Cher Sébastien,

Lors de notre rendez-vous convaincu secret au BT59 de Bègles, je ne pensais pas que l'annonce de votre venue serait rendue publique.
Du coup, la lumière tamisée, vos déclarations enflammées au micro, vos déhanchements simulant l'acte d'amour à votre piano, tout ceci ne me furent à regret point exclusif.
Tout ce monde autour de nous brisant notre intimité.
Du coup, je n'ai pas osé enfouir mes doigts dans votre barbe épaisse, pourtant si proche.
Presque à regrets.
Mais j'y survie.
Par dépit d'un contact privilégié, vous nous êtes réfugié dans la boisson et du coup l'ensemble du public a pu bénéficier de vos blagues scabreuses alcooliques.



Bon sinon, plaisanteries à part, pas une seule fausse note (malgré l'état cité plus haut) des 9 chansons + 2,5 en rappel.
Le tout ambiance rock, pour 80 % de chansons du dernier album Sexuality, un Ritournelleet Bossa Nova (j'ai pas la playlist exacte en tête).
Le rythme fut quand même cassé par les interventions du chanteur totalement bourré (mais je le rappelle AUCUNE fausse note...juste un manque de concentration) donc il y avait des pauses entre chaque chanson ce qui a pu énerver pas mal de spectateurs.

Perso, oui ce concert de Sébastien Tellier m'a autant amusé que détendu les oreilles.

A noter que la première partie, elle aussi m'a faite rire, mais pas dans le bon sens du terme : Minitel Rose composé de 3 Nantais, avaient bien la pêche pour nous faire écouter leur électro-rock, les deux chanteurs faisant un ping-pong vocal qui donnait du rythme.Mais figés (le trac ?) tous les 3 derrière un écran de pc c'était à certains moments, risible. Une impression de concert dans leur chambre...
