Mind Kiosk were a Pop band from Hildesheim / Germany. Their active years spanned from 1992 - 2001.
Their music is a dynamic and melodic Pop Rock sound with influences as diverse as 60’s Psychedelia, Power Pop, Punk Rock and even Jazz, Funk and Soul.
They certainly had a unique sound especially when ten years time ago everyone else with a guitar in a band in Germany wouldn’t play Pop Music but some kind of Post Grunge Crossover Rock or Rap Metal.
Mind Kiosk were hip then and wouldn’t look out of place today among current indie scenesters like The Coral, The Bees, The Cribs, The Draytones and The Rascals.
They went through several line-up changes but the trinity of songwriters stayed intact from start to end:
Thorsten Wohllebe (guitar, wurlitzer, vocals)
Stephan Ossenkopp (lead vocals, guitar, synths)
Sascha Steinfurth (bass, vocals)
Also on board were:
Tim Müller Heidelberg (drums, percussion)
Fritzi Korr (vox organ)
Ingo Günther (organ)
Tim Weilandt (drums)
Jan Reulecke (drums).
Mind Kiosk released two mini albums (1995 + 1997) on CD on the Berlin indie label TWANG!
In 2000 a final album “Mind Kiosk - mmmm ” was recorded and pressed on vinyl only. It was well received by critics and even got featured as record of the month at the important Berlin radio station Radio Eins but not all things were going right. Shortly after the release relations between the label Swamp Room Records and the band went sour as they didn’t come to terms over certain legal aspects.
