Heh... I don't know, I like it, but it's not among the best Miles albums for me. It's a bit overshadowed by the stuff that came right before (Cookin'/Relaxin'/Steamin'/Workin') and after (Miles Ahead/Milestones/Porgy and Bess/Kind of Blue), IMO. Having said that, it's still a damn fine album from an era when Miles et al could basically do no wrong and most of the things I'd say against it would be nitpicks.

Miles' first recording for Columbia featuring a promising new jazz quintet that would for all time define jazz of the 1950s: small band, flexibility, and an altogether fresh sense of style, musical and personal. Miles' comeback LP from a narcotics addiction. Miles Davis - Trumpet / John Coltrane - Tenor Saxophone / Red Garland - Piano / Paul Chambers - Bass / Philly Joe Jones - Drums
