Biography
Mike McMonagle is a proud native and resident of Lancaster, PA.
He first began playing guitar under the direction of guitarist Don Peris (The Innocence Mission). Working with Peris helped cement Mike’s interest in the folk music tradition, studying the works of Bob Dylan, John Denver, and others. Additionally, one of Peris’ former students - Philadelphia singer/songwriter Denison Witmer - became an influence in Mike’s songwriting.
Mike first began performing at downtown Lancaster’s now-defunct independent film theater, Zoetropolis. As a college student in Baltimore, MD, Mike performed regularly on-campus and at local open mic nights. Later, Mike relocated to Arlington, VA, where he performed at open mic nights, including at the renowned metro-DC venue Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA.
Throughout a two-year stint in VA, Mike began writing and self-recording whenever possible, tapping into feelings of homesickness, heartache and, most poignantly, hope. In the November of 2009, Mike returned home to Lancaster county with a fresh catalog of original material.
In January 2010, Mike was a featured performer in the LAUNCH Singer/songwriter Showcase. Mike has since played alongside Nick Howard (UK), Marc Von Em (Peekskill, NY), Bess Rogers (Brooklyn, NY) and Darcie Miner (Harrisburg, PA), at venues including Chameleon Club (Lancaster, PA), Stage on Herr (Harrisburg, PA), Lancaster Dispensing Co. (Lancaster, PA), and Joe Squared (Baltimore, MD).
