Biography
Mike Kukin (Mikhail M.Kukin) 08/06/1981 is a Russian composer, performer and music producer. Working in different experimental directions. Still in his teens, Mike became interested in trance, dance and the big beat sound - with its heavy break beats and synthesizer-generated loops. By his mid-twenties, Mike was performing in groups and had already been signed with many small indie labels.
In 2009, he began craving to work as a solo artist. He came to recognize it was vital to have more creative control in his work. “I realized I had to work more independently to press forward in developing own true sound,” explains Mike. This decision marked an artistic rebirth in Kukin. He now could take his creation from conception to completion as a composer, producer and performer. Inspired by life experiences, classical composers, and movie soundtracks, he began to compose tracks for solo projects.
In 2010, Kukin released his debut solo album, Obsessed With Black. It was a fusion of power-bass, synthesizers, and atypical vocal elements. Obsessed With Black consisted of eight tracks - all reflecting Kukin’s uncanny ability to combine elements that are opposites. The result was a diverse mix with a unique sound as dance leads meshed with reggae and ethnic songs. A perfect example of this is the track “Fear Song/Haniranina” which features rare vocals from the Oroch language – still spoken by only around two-hundred natives in Siberia.
