The Moldavian violinist, Mihai Botofei. From Neamt Judet, this excellent violinist plays the local regional folk music of the area. An excellent musician with great knowledge of the music of the Neamt area of Moldavia.
In the years before WW II, many Klezmer musicians lived and played in this region, as well as other parts of Moldavia, thus some connections may be evident. Botofei is a very tasteful musician and was particularly lucky in being aided by the services of the conductor, George Sirbu, director of the Folk Ensemble of Suceava in Northern Moldavia. Remaining close to the folk style, Sirbu creates supporting backgrounds that highlight the roots of the pieces.
