Microplane is Francisco M, an indie electronic music artist based in (O)Porto.
Mostly aware from preconceived aesthetic concepts and still not knowing exactly what a chord is, he uses synths, stuff, ears, fingers and soul to compose music.
Although he doesn’t hide about the absence of a musical education and he doesn’t care much about the invisibility of his main influences, he may hide himself behind all that…He also likes to hide behind odd vintage calculator machines with sound synthesis capabilities.
His themes may be compared to musical accidents, resulting from ephemeral synth programming, trial-and-error sound experimentation, small lyric portions with shy vocalizations, melody use with reverb abuse and lack of over-refinements.
Despite this faint concept, the process of rendering states-of-mind into music is always guided by an emotional force of his own;
At the end, one can perceive a mixture of genres such as Downtempo, Electronica, Trip-Hop, IDM, NVM or WTF, though Microplane has recently been self-tagged as “Naivetronica” and/or “Knobgaze”.
