Biography

Michael J Stewart (Last FM username: porius) describes himself as a maximinimalist. His music ranges from experimental graphic scores and electronic music through to minimalism. He studied composition, piano and flute at Chichester College, Sussex and continued his musical studies at Trinity College of Music London where he studied composition with Sir John Tavener. During this time he also attended Richard Arnell’s course “Composing Music for Films” at the London International Film School, as well as working with contemporary dance choreographers in London.

MJS is a leading authority on the music of the Greek composer Jani Christou (1940-70) and in 2000 wrote the booklet essays to a 4 volume CD series devoted Christou’s music on ther Greek label Sirius. The series was granted the Discography Award by the Greek Union of Drama and Music Critics in 2002.

    Hi, i am a student in the UK who is doing the play ' Blue Remembered Hills' for a practical marked A Level Exam which will make up a huge amount of our final result.     Behind Mr. Stewart's music standing a lots of time of studing, learning.....and lots of hard things. This music can't make someone who is not well musicaly educated. That's for sure. Good luck Mr. Stewart in your further compositional work. :)

    I usually don't really like piano based music. Some composers are exceptions of course, like Stockhausen and Ligeti (and some modern classical like Type rec performers). Now you belongs to exceptions thread, too! Great music, congratulations!
