Biography
Michael Des Barres is a singer and actor. His former group Chequered Past opened a few live dates for Duran Duran and that is how his connection with John Taylor and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran began. Des Barres stepped into the Power Station and sang with them when Robert Palmer decided not to tour. In addition to that tour Des Barres performed with the Power Station at the history making Live Aid Concert, and recorded the song “Someday, Somehow, Someone’s Gotta Pay” (also known as “We Fight For Love”) for the soundtrack to the film “Commando.”
Des Barres also co-wrote and sings background vocals on John Taylor’s “I Do What I Do” single that appeared in the film “9 1/2 Weeks.” He co-wrote and performed the song “Obsession” with Holly Knight for the soundtrack to “A Night In Heaven.” Animotion covered the song and had a major hit with it. He recorded one solo album for MCA Records called “Somebody Up There Likes Me.” He had a minor MTV hit with the song “Money Don’t Come Easy” which Andy Taylor performs on. Melanie Griffith appears in the video clip for the song.
In his acting career, he appeared on several episodes of “Roseanne” (playing Martin Mull’s boyfriend on one episode, and a doctor on another episode) as well as episodes of “Melrose Place”, “Ellen”, “MacGyver”, “My Sister Sam”, “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”, “Just Shoot Me”, “Frasier”, “Nip/Tuck” among others. He also acted in the independent feature “Sugar Town” with John Taylor, and Martin Kemp (of Spandau Ballet).
