Willie and Merle came up with some unique duets and unsual tunes which set them apart from the crowd. Who in their right mind would have gone to the record producer and said: "Uh, we want to do a tune about a Mexican bandit!" What? Man, this was mega-hit. Who knew? Fans of Willie & Merle, that's who. Country Music has always had a soft spot for the Mexican, especially here in Texas. We never fought the Mexicans per se. We fought tyranny of Santa Anna. And a whole bunch of Mexicans joined in the fight with us. We are all brothers and sisters here in The Lone Star State. Just enter our borders legally is all we ask. But ... we welcome everyone to come enjoy the good life in Texas.

Nothin beats Townes doin it acoustic. Once again, as with most Townes's songs, excess studio production kills it.
