Mercury Rev is an American rock music group, that formed in 1989 in Buffalo, New York. Original personnel were David Baker (vocals), Jonathan Donahue (vocals, guitars), Sean "Grasshopper" Mackowiak (guitars, clarinet), Suzanne Thorpe (flute), Dave Fridmann (bass) and Jimy Chambers (drums).

  • (IMHO) the new record is shit, which makes me really sad considering it was being hailed as a "return to form". They've always had their cringe-worthy moments, but the second half of the album (e.g. "Sunflower" and the final track with spoken word awfulness) is like the record Polyphonic Spree would be too embarrassed to make. Deserter's Songs is still brilliant.
  • i do prefer the earlier stuff, but too many people claiming that everything post-Baker is tooootally like the worstest shit EVAH, including Deserter's Songs ffs. See You On The Other Side is probably their best album anyway.
